Dr. Ferit Demirkan

Ferit Demirkan completed his medical degree at the renowned Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Department of English in 1989, followed by his specialization at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. The early phase of his medical journey was marked by an intensive microsurgery research fellowship under Dr. Maria Siemionow at Utah University Medical School, a two-year stint mainly focused on limb transplants.

Post-specialization, Demirkan pursued a clinical microsurgery fellowship with Dr. Fu-Chan Wei at Taiwan's Chang Gung University for a year. This period was devoted primarily to the study of post-cancer repairs. On returning to Turkey, he took the initiative to establish the Department of Plastic Surgery at Mersin University Faculty of Medicine.

2002 was a milestone year for Demirkan as he served as a visiting fellow at Ghent University, focusing on breast reconstruction post-cancer, while also earning his associate professorship. His competence and expertise were further recognized in 2004 when he passed the European Board of Plastic Surgery exam and received the title of Fellow of EBOPRAS.

Further expanding his academic contributions, he founded the Department of Medical Education at Mersin University Faculty of Medicine in 2005. The upward trajectory of his career continued, with him earning a professorship in 2009, followed by a move to Istanbul Fulya Acıbadem Hospital in 2010.

From 2013 to 2016, Demirkan headed the Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine. In 2017, he established his own aesthetic center, the Demirkan Clinic. Engaging in patient tourism since 2011, Demirkan's clinic draws a diverse clientele from Europe, Azerbaijan, Gulf Countries, and the Middle East for various aesthetic and reconstructive procedures.

Demirkan has made substantial contributions to the field of medical literature, with over 50 articles in international journals, various book chapters, and a book on microsurgery to his name. His leadership roles include the presidency of the Turkish Microsurgery Association and board memberships with the Turkish Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association for three terms, as well as the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery for two terms.

Throughout his 26 years in practice, Demirkan has exhibited expertise across all areas of aesthetic surgery, with particular emphasis on nose, breast, face, and body shaping operations. As a European Board Certified plastic surgeon based in Istanbul, Turkey, his academic background combines reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. Demirkan is recognized as a founding member of the Turkish Board of Plastic Surgery and has significantly contributed to the Turkish Society of Plastic Surgery.

His vast experience includes fellowships with globally-renowned surgeons such as Dr. Maria Siemionow, known for performing the first face transplantation in the U.S., and Dr. Fu-Chan Wei, a leading microsurgeon in Asia. As a result, Demirkan is among a select few surgeons in Turkey who have performed hand and face transplants.

Beyond his 100 international publications and numerous book chapters, Demirkan has organized numerous national and international meetings, is a founding member of the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery and the International Academy of Oral Oncology, and is a member of several other Turkish and international societies.

His expertise extends to reconstructive surgery, notably microsurgical breast and head & neck reconstruction and hand surgery. Demirkan also offers a wide range of aesthetic procedures, including body shaping operations post-bariatric surgery, liposuction with patient-customized devices, various facelift types, including High SMAS and Deep Plane, fat grafting with stem cells, rhinoplasty with piezo, and an array of non-invasive cosmetic procedures such as fillers, neurotoxins, skincare, and tightening.
