Dr. Ethem Guneren

Dr. Ethem Güneren was born in the Zile district of Tokat. His educational journey took him across three different cities and four different schools. He completed his secondary education at Samsun Maarif College and high school at Bursa Anatolian High School. Later, he received his medical degree from Istanbul Medical Faculty.

After completing his education, Dr. Güneren served his mandatory service at Burdur Merkez Karakent Village Health Center and fulfilled his military obligations at Antalya Side Gendarmerie Camp Command as a Medical Lieutenant. An interesting part of his journey was his trip to Nepal - Kathmandu, where he witnessed Mount Everest. In 1991, he published a poetry book titled 'Uslu Kentli.'

Dr. Güneren's medical journey led him to start his Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery specialization at Semmelweis University Medical Faculty Hospital in Hungary, which he completed at Şişli Etfal and Bezmialem Valide Sultan Vakıf Gureba Training and Research Hospitals. He then proceeded to specialize in Hand Surgery and Oral, Face, and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Besides his surgical pursuits, Dr. Güneren has also contributed to literature. In 2020, he published 'My Mother's Remark Came,' a book detailing his stories of voluntary/compulsory doctorship.

Professionally, Dr. Güneren holds specializations in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery; Oral, Facial, and Maxillofacial Surgery; and Hand Surgery. He is a lecturer at Bezmialem Vakif University Faculty of Medicine. In 1998, he completed his medical residency and plastic surgery specialization after graduating from Istanbul University's Medical Department in 1987. He was also one of the early Turkish surgeons to pass the selective EBOPRAS examination in 2003.

As a member of the European Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (EBOPRAS) since 2003 and the American Plastic Surgery Association since 2017, Dr. Güneren has maintained active engagement with the global medical community. He has written six books, one of which is a poetry collection, and has published more than 130 academic articles, with 100 of them in English.
