Dr. Bart Van Wagensveld

Dr. Bart Van Wagensveld, having completed his MD and PhD from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands, embarked on his medical journey specializing in Gastro-Intestinal and Laparoscopic Surgery. His expertise was further honed during a fellowship in Pancreato-Biliary Surgery in London. In 2004, Dr. Van Wagensveld assumed the role of consultant surgeon and head of the surgical department at Sint Lucas Andreas Hospital in Amsterdam, marking the beginning of his contributions to the field.

During his tenure, he established a comprehensive Laparoscopic Gastro-Intestinal and Bariatric program, accredited by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO), where he performed and taught numerous advanced laparoscopic surgeries. His leadership extended beyond the operating room as he served as chairman of the Medical Board and orchestrated the merger of Sint Lucas Andreas Ziekenhuis and Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis into OLVG Amsterdam.

Dr. Van Wagensveld's involvement in the medical community is evident through his presidency of the Dutch Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and his role in the international expansion of QURO (Dutch Obesity Clinic) in the United Arab Emirates as Chief Medical Officer. His commitment to medical education and research is demonstrated by his contribution of over 90 peer-reviewed articles and 2 book chapters, alongside organizing and participating in national and international conferences.

In his clinical practice, Dr. Van Wagensveld focuses on a range of procedures including Adjustable Gastric Band, Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Single Anastomosis Gastric Bypass, Bilio-Pancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch, and Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass. His proficiency in multiple languages including Dutch, English, German, French, and Spanish, enables him to cater to a diverse patient population.

Currently, Dr. Van Wagensveld serves as co-chairman of the Communication Committee and is a member of the Data Protection Committee of IFSO. He also holds a position on the editorial board of Obesity Surgery, underlining his ongoing contribution to the field of bariatric surgery.
