Is it possible to treat advanced peri-implantitis?

I've developed advanced peri-implantitis from an implant that was installed approximately five years ago. I've consulted with different professionals, but their recommendations have been conflicting. The oral surgeon suggests seeking treatment from a periodontist who can address it with bone and gum tissue grafting, while the periodontist recommends going back to the oral surgeon for removal. How can I determine the best course of action and find the right specialist for my situation?
