Is it advisable to undergo a second apicoectomy?
Is it advisable to undergo a second apicoectomy, or should I contemplate getting a dental implant after experiencing a tooth infection five years post the initial apicoectomy? Approximately five or six years ago, I underwent an apicoectomy procedure on the same tooth, which has now become infected once more. I'm faced with a dilemma: should I opt for another apicoectomy to salvage the tooth, or should I consider extraction followed by a dental implant? I'm only 28 years old, and I'm struggling to make a decision.
Remaining root length is insufficient for a second apical resection and a periapical bone loss is seen due to infection. Extraction, bone graft and dental implant placement will be a better and more durable solution.
