Dr. Onur Erol

Dr. Onur Erol was born in 1939 in Söke and completed his high school education at St. Joseph French High School in Istanbul. He graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Medicine in 1965 before pursuing General Surgery at Hacettepe University. In 1969, he became a Board Certified General Surgeon and subsequently received Board Certification in Plastic Surgery in 1971. He achieved the title of Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at Hacettepe University in 1974.

In 1976, Dr. Erol received a scholarship award from The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). He then worked at several universities in the United States, including Eastern Virginia School of Medicine and Baylor College of Medicine. During his time in the U.S., Dr. Erol completed 21 different research projects and received several awards, including an American Cancer Society GRANT Award and two NIH awards.

Returning to Turkey in 1980, Dr. Erol was appointed Professor of Plastic Surgery at Hacettepe University Medical School. In 1989, he moved to Istanbul, where he continued his academic work at Akdeniz University Plastic Surgery Department and Marmara University Dental School while also building his private practice.

In addition to his research and practice, Dr. Erol has been involved in several associations and organizations, both in Turkey and internationally. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the European Plastic Surgery Association. Dr. Erol has also developed 18 new techniques related to plastic surgery and contributed to over 70 medical publications.

Doctor Erol's work has extended beyond his own research and practice. He has educated 21 young plastic surgeons following their residencies, focusing on the development of skills and understanding within the field. His contributions have also been reflected in his role as the Head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Kadir Has University in Istanbul.
