Dr. Atay Atabey

Dr. Atay Atabey, born in Ankara in 1958, pursued his medical education at Istanbul University's Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, completing his studies in 1983. After fulfilling his compulsory service, he began specialization in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery in 1985 and achieved his specialist qualification in 1990 from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Atabey's academic journey included significant research periods at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in the United States, focusing on composite flap prefabrication, cranio-maxillofacial surgery, and tissue transfers between 1994-1995 and 1998-2000. During this tenure, he also engaged in advanced aesthetic surgery techniques, including endoscopic three-dimensional facelifts, under the guidance of notable practitioners in the field.

His professional career is marked by a long-standing association with Dokuz Eylül University's Faculty of Medicine, where he served in various capacities, culminating in the role of Head of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery until his retirement in 2011. Dr. Atabey has contributed to over 50 publications in scientific journals and participated in numerous conferences and meetings, highlighting his active involvement in the academic and research aspects of his field.

In 2004, he founded Estetia Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery in Izmir, which continues to operate, offering a range of aesthetic and reconstructive services. Additionally, in 2023, he took on a faculty position at İzmir Tınaztepe University's Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.

Dr. Atabey's professional narrative is also enriched by his roles outside the operating room, including his tenure on the Board of Directors for the Turkish Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association and his contributions to the ethical oversight of experimental animal research at Dokuz Eylül University.

His personal life includes marriage to Prof. Dr. S. Neşe Atabey, a professor of Molecular Biology and Genetics, and together they have two children.
