Should I opt for shaving the mole or complete removal by a plastic surgeon?
Hello, I have a mole situated on my left cheek just above the end of my mustache. I am planning to have it removed by a plastic surgeon. I understand that there will be scarring involved, and after researching various mole removal procedures, it seems that this method may result in the largest scar compared to others. Consequently, I am now hesitant about proceeding with this approach and am considering the option of simply shaving the mole to minimize scarring. I would greatly appreciate your professional opinion. Should I opt for removal or shaving?
Hi there,
Deciding between shaving a mole or full removal really depends on a few factors. Shaving usually leaves a smaller scar, but the mole might come back because it's not fully removed. It's quicker and might be less noticeable. Full removal by a plastic surgeon, while it may leave a bigger initial scar, ensures the mole is completely gone and you get the benefit of their expertise in minimizing scarring over time. If there's any chance the mole is atypical or could be something more serious, full removal is definitely the way to go.
I'd recommend seeing a dermatologist first to get their take on it. They can tell you if there's any risk with just shaving it. If it's just a cosmetic concern and the mole is benign, shaving might be fine. If you want to make sure it's fully gone and don't mind the initial scar, go with the plastic surgeon.
Hope this helps!
